"Yeah yeah, I'm grateful. I know it's thanks to you that I've managed to find an apartment. And that your friend has found a tenant." Gackt spoke into the cell phone as he walked on.
He made sure to check out the numbers of the doors that he walked by. To see if any matched the one he was looking for.
"What? A treat?" Gackt stopped walking. "Uh-huh...yeah sure Ken, I'll treat you to dinner when you stop chasing girls."
The blond looked at the small paper in his hand before looking at the door just beside him.
"Hey, I think I've found the place. I'll call you back another time, alright? Okay okay...dinner tomorrow. Yeah...bye."
As he was done, Gackt placed his cell phone into the pocket of his jacket and placed his bag down by his feet.
"This is it...I hope he finds me alright..." The blond mumbled, before pressing the bell by the door.
There was no sound of ringing, but the door flew open after awhile.
"Hi, I'm Gackt." The blond began, before he realised that the owner of the apartment was looking back at him curiously.
And he was a rather cute brunette at that.
"I'm Ken's friend..." Gackt spoke up. "You know Ken? The big hentai?"
The brunette smiled. "Of course, you must be Gackt."
"Yeah, that's what I said."
"Sorry...didn't quite catch it at first." The brunette looked apologetic. "I'm Hyde by the way."
"Ken's mentioned you." Gackt smiled.
"That's nice. Nothing bad about me I hope."
"Just some interesting things." Gackt teased. "Secrets and stuff..."
"Oh?" Hyde seemed a bit surprised. "He didn't really tell you anything did he?"
"Like what?"
"N-Nothing." Hyde smiled some more. Then he gestured for Gackt to enter the apartment. "Please, come in."
"Thanks." Gackt nodded before going into the apartment and looking around. "Actually Ken just told me that you are a nice person...and that you can cook."
"I see..." Hyde nodded. "Umm...the apartment isn't big or impressive...but it's cozy."
Gackt turned to him. "It's alright. It looks like a nice place."
"That's good."
"Also, Ken told me that you can cook quite well."
"Umm..." Hyde smiled shyly. "I'm okay...not too good."
"Oh?"
"If you don't mind eating what I cook, I'll gladly prepare your meals." Hyde spoke up. "That is, if you're not picky..."
"Sure." Gackt smiled. "I would like that."
Hyde nodded before picking up some magazines from the table and neatening them up. "You know...you're Ken's friend...and so am I...but we've never met before ne?"
"Yeah, we've never met."
"It isn't nice of Ken..." Hyde smiled as he turned back to Gackt. "Not introducing me earlier to someone as kakkoii as you."
"Eh?" Gackt hadn't expect Hyde to compliment him.
"You must be tired." Hyde spoke again. "You're room is the one with the name 'Gackt' pasted on the door. I just put the sign there for you to know. Put it aside, then go into the room to unpack your stuff and to rest..."
"Okay."
"Make yourself at home."
"Thanks." Gackt smiled, picking up his bag. "For letting me stay here."
"I've got extra space." Hyde answered matter-of-factly.
"I'm still grateful."
"Hmm...I'll leave you alone then. If you need anything, I'll be in my room. Just press the button by the side of the door and I'll come out."
"Button?"
"The one that looks like a doorbell...over there..." Hyde pointed to his room door.
"Eh? Why do you have it?"
Hyde shrugged. "I just have a fascination with doorbells."
"Oh?" Gackt raised an eyebrow.
"It flickers this little lamp in my room and I'll notice it faster than if you were to knock or call for me."
"Why?" Gackt smiled teasingly. "You're hard of hearing or something?"
Hyde simply looked back at the blond, the humour seemed lost on him.
**********
"The apartment's pretty well-decorated...comfy...I think I'm going to like living there."
Ken smiled as he turned to the waitress, a cheeky look on his face. "That will be all."
The young woman nodded before walking away.
"And I slept well last night...had a good dinner..." Gackt continued. "Ken, I'm really glad that you helped me to find a place to stay."
"It's no problem. Thank you for the dinner treat." Ken smiled.
"I bet you come here not only for the food."
"Yeah..." Ken grinned before glancing at the earlier waitress, now standing by a different table. "She's pretty isn't, she?"
"They have plenty of pretty waitresses here don't they?"
"That's why I like this restaurant." Ken spoke, before drinking a bit of cool water. "It's also not too expensive..."
"I can see that."
"So..." Ken looked up at Gackt curiously. "How do you find Hyde?"
"Hyde?" The blond grinned as he looked down at the table. "He's very attractive."
"Ah...that." Ken smiled. "Most people would say that."
"Really?"
"Then again, a lot of people say that about you too."
"I didn't know that."
"Now you do." Ken stated. "Some people have been attracted to Hyde, but somehow they always break up in the end."
"Oh? And why's that?"
"Don't get me wrong." Ken went on. "Hyde's a nice guy. But I guess people have their differences."
"I see."
"Apart from the fact that you find him attractive..." Ken smiled. "How was your first day there?"
"It's alright. I think I can get along with Hyde...he gives me plenty of space, and time to myself. I feel right at home."
"Great."
"And not only is the apartment nice, there's a piano too, so I can compose my music conveniently."
"Yeah, the piano..." Ken looked thoughtful. "Hyde has that around, but he no longer touches it. It's good that he has managed to find someone who can find use for it."
Gackt looked up from his food. "Umm...why doesn't he use it anymore?"
"He can't play it." Ken answered simply.
"Eh? Then why did he have it in the first place?"
Ken shrugged, hesitating a little before replying. "I don't know...he's hard to figure out."
Gackt looked at Ken curiously but didn't ask more.
"Anyway, Hyde would be glad to know that you are happy with the apartment."
"Really?"
"Yeah, he was kind of worried that things might get...awkward..."
"And why's that?"
"Umm..." Ken looked at the glass of plain cold water. "I don't know."
"Hyde told me that he has a thing for doorbells. Is that true?"
"Huh?" Ken looked at Gackt dumbly.
"Like if I want to call for him when he is in his room..."
"Oh...that." Ken scratched his head. "Yeah, I guess he does. It's also because of...umm, Hyde's always deep in thought. With too many things on his mind, a flickering light gets his attention faster..."
"I see..."
"Don't worry Gackt, you'll get used to it."
**********
Gackt looked up to see brown eyes looking at him intently.
"Uh...why are you looking at me like that?"
Hyde immediately gave a sheepish smile. "Just wondering how you find the food."
"It's good."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Gackt nodded. "Thanks for making me breakfast today, and yesterday...not forgetting dinner too..."
"Ah...you don't have to thank me all the time." Hyde looked at the blond. "I'm just glad you liked the food."
"Hmm..." Gackt glanced at his watch. "I'll be going off to work now."
"Un...me too..."
Gackt smiled as he watched Hyde finishing up his breakfast. Ken had told him that Hyde worked at a restaurant, mostly helping out with the cooking in the kitchen.
It made him wonder why Hyde was working there. He seemed to be a pretty capable person who could probably do other things than just being a cook assistant.
"Umm..." Hyde spoke up. "I hope the last two days had been alright."
"It's fine." Gackt smiled. "I like it here."
"Oh..." Hyde was relieved. "I heard that you're quite a rich guy who's used to living in very big apartments and having luxurious things. Maybe my place is a little too...humble."
"Ken told you that?"
"About where you used to live. Why did you come here anyway?"
"For work..." Gackt thought it over. "To get inspiration, for my music."
"Oh."
"I wanted a change of surrounding." Gackt looked at Hyde. "And I don't find your apartment bad at all...I really like it here."
"That's good." The brunette looked down at his plate.
"I better get moving soon..." Gackt glanced at his watch again.
When there was no response, Gackt looked at the brunette. "Hyde?"
The latter was looking at his empty plate, blinking as he did.
"Hyde." Gackt tapped the brunette's hand lightly.
"Eh?" Hyde looked up in surprise. "Yes?"
"I'm going off now."
"Oh." Hyde smiled. "Okay...take care."
**********
Gackt yawned as he pushed the door open. It had been a tiring day at work and he was glad that he could finally get some rest.
As he heard his cell phone ringing, Gackt promptly picked it up. "Moshi-moshi?"
"Gackt, it's me Toshiya."
"Oh...what do you want?"
"Hey, is that how you greet me?"
Gackt sighed. Toshiya was apparently in a mood for attention. "What is it ne?"
"How about going out tonight? I'm kind of bored..."
"Go and ask Ryu then."
"I don't want to. He's boring...besides, I'm tired of going out with him. I want you, Gackt."
The way Toshiya said it made Gackt uncomfortable. But he didn't say anything in reply, letting Toshiya go on.
"I don't get to see you much at work these days, how about seeing me tonight? Please say yes?"
"Toshiya..."
"You can call me Totchi ne..."
"Totchi, I'm tired."
"Please, Gackt? Or I'm not ever talking to you again."
That would be a relief, the blond thought. But he didn't tell Toshiya that. "Fine, give me a few hours...you want to meet at the usual place?"
"Un."
"Will other people be there?"
"Yes, but we can always get away and enjoy our own company."
No, he would rather have other people around. Sighing a little, Gackt tried to sound enthusiastic. "Okay...see you later."
Putting his phone away, Gackt closed the door behind him.
Looking at the clock on the wall nearby, it looked like Hyde wouldn't be back until a few hours.
"I'll be by myself then..."
Placing his set of keys on a nearby table, he overheard soft sound coming from the television.
Walking over curiously, he saw Hyde lying on the sofa, remote control in hand.
"Hyde?" The blond called out. "What are you doing home early?"
The volume of the television was quite soft, but Hyde gave no reply.
"Why don't you make the volume louder?" Gackt asked. When there was no answer, he walked right to the sofa.
"Eh?" Hyde lifted his head off the cushion in surprise and turned around. "When did you get back?"
Gackt looked at the brunette. "Didn't you hear me come in?"
"Hmm? Guess not..." Hyde yawned, stretching his arm.
"Why are you already home?" Gackt asked, sitting down on the sofa as Hyde moved to make space for him.
"Oh...that..." Hyde scratched his head, looking disappointed all of a sudden. "I got fired."
"Eh? Why's that?"
"I don't know...maybe I'm not good enough to work there..." Hyde mumbled, keeping his eyes on the television set.
"Hey." Gackt thought about cheering the brunette up. "Why don't we go out tonight?"
"What?" Hyde looked surprise.
"We'll get to know each other better...it will be fun."
"I'm not sure..."
"Come on, I'll introduce you to my friends."
**********
"This is Yoshiki...Teru..." Gackt introduced everyone in the group sitting by the table to Hyde.
Until he reached a pouting Toshiya, who appeared unhappy that Gackt had brought someone with him.
"And this is Toshiya..." Gackt spoke, noticing that the blue-haired didn't even bother looking at Hyde, much less smile.
"It's nice to meet you." Hyde smiled nonetheless.
"Whatever." Toshiya mumbled, taking a sip of his drink. "I think our table's a little full why don't YOU go and sit somewhere else. I'm sure other tables can accommodate you."
"Oh..." Hyde stood there awkwardly. "Yeah, maybe I should-"
"No, you're sitting here with me." Gackt smiled, taking Hyde's hand.
"Eh? But-"
"That's right." Yoshiki spoke up. "Friends should sit together. No matter how squeezy it is, the more the merrier, eh?"
Toshiya pouted, before standing up and looking at Gackt. "Well, Hyde can sit here. Why don't you and me find a table for ourselves? It would give the others more room."
Gackt looked at Hyde, seeing the uncomfortable look on his face.
"You okay?" The blond asked.
"I'm fine...not used to being in these kind of places...so crowded...lots of people drinking and dancing..." Hyde mumbled. "That's all."
"Come on Gackt..." Toshiya whined.
"No, I'm sitting here." Gackt decided.
The blue-haired shot Hyde a look of dislike before sitting back down. "Fine, I don't mind sitting here either."
The brunette could detect the iciness in which Toshiya spoke. Looking at Gackt uncertainly, he wondered if he should leave.
"Here, sit down!" Yoshiki patted the seat beside him, motioning for Hyde to sit beside him.
"Umm..." Feeling Gackt's hand on his shoulder, Hyde decided to just sit down.
Gackt squeezed in beside him, smiling a little. "Don't look so tensed. Relax..."
"Uh...yeah..."
"Hey, let's all go and dance." Toshiya suddenly suggested.
"Yeah..." The others agreed enthusiastically.
"Hyde, are you joining us?" Toshiya turned to the brunette.
"Eh? I don't know..."
"Why not?" Toshiya smiled, in a less friendly manner. Then he grabbed Hyde's hand. "Let's all dance."
"No, wait." Hyde pulled away, looking a bit upset.
"What's the matter? Can't dance or something?"
"I...I don't want to..."
"Hah...I bet you can't." Toshiya grinned. "Just listen to the music and move to it."
"It's just a dance." Teru offered, looking at Hyde.
Gackt too looked at the brunette curiously.
"Excuse me..." Hyde suddenly stood up.
"Where are you going?" Gackt asked in surprise.
"Home."

"He didn't say anything else. He just got up and left."
"Then...did you go after him?" Ken asked curiously.
Gackt shrugged. "I wasn't sure if I should. I mean, I'm just his tenant after all. Would I be expected to go after him?"
"Hmm...that's true..."
"And if there is some personal thing going on, I'm not quite his friend to butt in, right?"
"I guess you have a point there..." Ken mumbled thoughtfully.
"But you know..." Gackt spoke again. "The main reason I asked him out was to sort of bond with him...get to know him better. Maybe become friends...that kind of thing."
"Uh-huh..."
"Because we're not there yet. We see and talk to each other only because we live in the same apartment."
"So you want to be friends?"
Gackt looked at Ken. "Wouldn't it be better if we were? Don't people usually want to do that, become friends?"
"Uh...yeah...that's true." Ken mumbled before sipping his coffee. "You're living together...all the more reason..."
"Anyway, after he left I took a few drinks before going home. I wanted to give Hyde some time to himself before getting back."
"That was considerate of you."
Gackt looked down at his untouched coffee. "When I got home, he was in already in his room. And then the next morning, he didn't come out either."
"So no breakfast?"
Gackt rolled his eyes. "Right, that's the main thing I'm trying to point out..."
Ken grinned. "Hey, just trying to lighten things up."
"Okay okay...there was no breakfast." Gackt relented. "Anyway, the whole time before I left, Hyde was in his room all the while."
"And since he's no longer working, there was also no reason for him to come out of his room unnecessarily."
"You know about that?" Gackt turned to Ken.
"About what?" Ken placed his drink back on the table. "That he got fired? Yeah...he called me about it two days ago. I'm trying to help him find a job at the moment."
"Oh...did he say anything about being upset when he called?"
"Well..." Ken seemed to consider the question. "No."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"But Hyde hasn't talked to me since three days ago..." Gackt spoke, sounding concerned. "He stays in his room most of the time I'm home and doesn't cook anything. I hope he manages to eat something..."
"Don't worry." Ken smiled slightly. "Food's not something to worry about. I'm quite certain he knows what time you leave and return to the apartment. It's most likely he would cook for himself while you're away."
"I hope so..." Gackt mumbled.
"Are you mad at him for avoiding you?" Ken gave Gackt a curious glance.
"Eh?" Gackt looked up in surprise. "Of course not. I'm just worried that he stays cooped up all the time."
"It's only been three days..."
"But wouldn't you get worried if the person you lived with never comes out of his room? It's like no one talks to me anymore...and in the first place, I haven't gotten to know him well either. It just makes things more awkward..."
"Awkward?"
"I just moved in quite recently. It is still his apartment...he owns the place...now avoiding me like this makes me feel like I fit in even less over there..."
"I see..." Ken thought it over. "I think I will have to talk to him."
"You're going to do that?"
"Yeah...see if there's anything wrong..."
"Okay...that would be good."
"Don't worry so much ne..." Ken smiled.
"You know...before leaving the apartment that day, we were talking about the things we like and so on..." Gackt spoke, looking at Ken. "Then when I asked him what sort of music he liked, he said that he didn't listen to music."
"Is...is that so?" Ken had a funny expression on his face. "You asked him that?"
Gackt nodded. "Maybe he was kidding around...Hyde's a little weird sometimes...don't really know when he's serious or not..."
"Ah..." Ken scratched his head. "Joking...right...he has a sense of humour after all."
"But then I noticed this morning that he really doesn't have a radio."
"Well...he prefers the television..."
"Then when my cell phone wasn't working right, I tried looking around for a phone in the house, but there wasn't one."
"He has a cell phone in his pocket. Didn't find any use for one in the house, you see...living alone and all that."
"Oh."
"Why are you asking? Do these trivial things bother you? Hyde not having a radio...phone..."
"Not really...but..." Gackt frowned slightly. "I feel like there's something I don't know..."
"Is that so?"
"Like I'm missing something."
"And that gets you worried?"
"I'm just feeling concerned for him."
Ken smiled. "Don't worry...maybe you're just not used to living with another individual."
"You think so?" Gackt looked up.
"Well..." Ken took another sip of his coffee. "It's only been days since you moved in. There's bound to be a need to adapt to another person's lifestyle and...stuff."
**********
"Eh? Toshiya, what's up?" Gackt asked as he moved the cell phone from his right to left ear. With his right hand, he began to look for his keys. "A party? When?"
Just as his hands made contact with the keys, the door suddenly flew open.
"Oh..." Gackt looked on at Hyde, who was also looking back at him. Quickly Gackt turned back to his call. "Toshiya, I'll call you back later."
Then he placed the phone back into his pocket, before standing by the door.
Was Hyde going to kick him out? The brunette didn't seem to welcome him into the house.
From where he was, Gackt could hear the sound of the television blaring at his ears. Hyde didn't show any expression as he looked on at Gackt.
Maybe he was angry...
"I...I bought dinner." Gackt raised the plastic bag in his hand. He didn't know what else to say. His first thought was to actually blurt out, "You finally left your room?"
And that didn't sound very tactful.
Hyde looked at the packet of food before lowering his gaze to the ground. "I'm sorry."
"Eh?"
"I'm sorry for getting upset that day. I wasn't in a good mood."
Gackt looked at Hyde in surprise. "There's no need to apologise. I'm the one who's sorry for insisting that you go there with me. And for Toshiya's rudeness...he's not always like that."
"It's alright, Gackt. I wasn't upset at you or your friend. I left because I wasn't feeling good."
"Really? Then why have you been avoiding me these few days?"
"I..." Hyde looked up. "I was afraid that you might be mad at me for leaving just like that."
"I'm not. I was just worried that something was wrong."
"Gomen ne...I should have told you something before I left." Hyde spoke again.
"It's okay." Gackt smiled.
"And umm..." Hyde looked at the blond. "Were you hungry this morning? I felt bad for not cooking you anything..."
"It's alright ne..."
"Then...in that case..." The brunette began to smile. "Are you coming in?"
Gackt nodded and went into the apartment. As he did, the loud volume of the television met his ears painfully. Grabbing the remote control from the table, he quickly lowered the volume.
"Hey...don't you find it a little too loud?" Gackt asked as he placed the remote onto the table once more.
"Oh..." Hyde looked at the television. "There's something wrong with the tv. It needs repairing. Sometimes the volume gets soft sometimes loud...and just now I couldn't hear so I made it loud. But then the moment you appeared the volume was fine again, so it blasted loudly since I had made the volume loud."
"Okay." Gackt smiled.
"I..." Hyde scratched his head. "I just wanted to explain it to you clearly."
"So would you like me to get the tv checked for you?" Gackt offered, looking at the brunette. "I have a friend who-"
"Eh? Nah...no need." Hyde waved a hand dismissively. "It's still working quite alright...why waste time getting it checked?"
"Okay then." Gackt nodded. "Let's have dinner."
"Hai." Hyde smiled in agreement.
**********
Gackt hugged the cushion before turning to Hyde, who was sleeping on the spot just beside him.
The sofa was comfortable that he was tempted to close his eyes and fall asleep. Just as Hyde had.
There was a movie playing on the tv at that late hour, but he was feeling very sleepy.
Yawning, he began searching for the remote control.
"Hmm..." Gackt felt around on the sofa, under the cushions, but found no remote. "Maybe it fell in between the seats."
Sleepily, he groped around and searched the spaces between the sofa seats.
It didn't take long before his fingers finally managed to grab something.
Gripping it tightly, Gackt pulled the remote out.
All of a sudden, the volume of the television got incredibly loud.
"Uh-oh."
Realising that he might have accidentally been pushing down the volume button, Gackt quickly tried to correct the situation.
Unfortunately, in his surprise by the sudden loud noise, Gackt had accidentally dropped the remote between the cushions.
He only hoped that the tv wouldn't wake Hyde and everyone else in the building up.
"Dammit...where is that-"
There was suddenly loud banging at the door.
"shit..." Gackt knew that whoever it was standing by the door must be a terribly pissed off neighbour. And he still had yet to find the remote control.
"Hey, it's late you know! Can't you keep the volume down?" Someone shouted from outside the door. "People are trying to sleep! Do you have any idea what time it is?"
Gackt finally found the remote and promptly turned the volume down.
"Next time we'll lodge a complaint." Someone muttered out, before Gackt heard the small group dismissing.
"Sorry..." Gackt mumbled.
Then he turned to his right. The noise should no doubt have woken Hyde up as well.
But he saw that Hyde hadn't moved at all. He was still sound asleep.
Gackt looked at the brunette curiously. "He sleeps like a log..."
**********
Hyde opened his eyes slowly. As he stared at the clock on the wall in front of him, he realised that it was already another day.
And he had been sleeping on the sofa the whole night.
"Ahh.." Hyde stretched his arms, before looking at the sleeping blond on the sofa beside him.
Picking up a cushion that had fallen onto the floor, he carefully lifted Gackt's hand and placed the cushion under it.
"You can hug that ne..." Hyde smiled before standing up.
He was just about to go and wash up, followed by cooking of breakfast, when the he felt vibrations coming from the beeper in his pocket.
Taking the object out, he saw the small red light flashing intermittently.
"Hmm...Ken sure is impatient." He mumbled before getting up and running to the door. "I'm coming, Ken-chan!"
Opening the door, he found his friend grinning as he stood there.
"Ohayo..." Hyde smiled. "What brings you here today?"
"You sure look happy today."
"Not really..." Hyde held onto the door. "My back hurts because I slept on the sofa."
"On the sofa? Why were you sleeping there?" Ken entered the apartment. "And where's Gackt?"
"Gackt? He's still asleep." Hyde answered, closing the door. "On the sofa."
Ken immediately turned and looked at Hyde in surprise. "Gackt slept on the sofa?"
"Yeah."
"But I thought you were the one who slept there?"
"Ah...me too." Hyde smiled, wondering why Ken had a funny look on his face.
"You guys slept on the sofa together?"
"Umm...you could say that..."
"You slept TOGETHER?"
"Eh? Why are you looking at me like that?" Hyde saw that Ken was grinning again.
"And here I was, worried that you guys were not getting along well..."
Hyde narrowed his eyes at Ken. "Hey, what's going on in that head of yours?"
"I don't know..." Ken smiled, trying to look innocent. "Gee...what's going on in YOUR mind?"
"Baka..." Hyde stuck his tongue out at Ken. "We were watching tv and we fell asleep."
"Is that so?" Ken grinned. "Actually I came over to talk to you."
"Oh?"
"Gackt was worried about you...and it got me worried too."
"Don't worry Ken, I'm fine."
"Really?" Ken sat down on a chair.
"Yeah..." Hyde decided to change the subject. "So how are things going on with the band?"
"My band?" Ken asked. Then he sighed. "Our leader, Tetsu, is thinking of ending it where it is..."
"And why's that?"
"Because we're not serious enough..."
"But Ken, I think you're a good guitarist. And you always take your work seriously."
"Maybe...but the three of us just can't do much together."
"You, Tetsu and Yukki?"
"Un." Ken nodded. "Maybe we need someone to sing our songs..."
Hyde looked at the table. "Then go and find that someone."
"What about you?" Ken asked, looking serious.
"You know that's not possible."
"But maybe you can try...you have your-"
"It doesn't seem to help much."
"But Hyde you had been-"
"Save it. Maybe the last time I had wanted to...but now things are different, aren't they?"
Ken sighed. "Okay...I won't bring it up again."
"That's better." Hyde smiled. "I'm going to go and make breakfast now. Gackt might be waking up soon..."
Ken grinned. "Just like a caring wife ne..."
"What did you say?" Hyde narrowed his eyes at Ken.
"Nothing." Ken folded his arms across his chest, keeping the grin on his face.
Hyde ignored him before heading to the kitchen.
"Oh by the way, if you like to go for it, I managed to get you a job interview."
"Really? For what?" Hyde peeked his head out from the kitchen doorway.
"Toilet cleaner."
"WHAT?!"
"Just kidding." Ken grinned. "It's a factory...production thing. Simple work."
"Oh...okay...thanks."
Ken smiled. "Hey you better get moving, I think your husband will be awake soon."
"Idiot."[/brown]

"You call this quality?" Takeki looked at Gackt incredulously. "Your work has been sloppy and not up to the expected standard."
"But I worked hard on it."
Takeki smirked, tossing the folder onto the table. "It looks like that was apparently not hard enough."
"That...that's not fair." Gackt protested. "Just because you think it's not good...a lot of people I asked happen to think that it is alright."
"Oh?" Takeki raised an eyebrow. "Then you obviously haven't asked the right people."
"You..."
"What? I what?" Takeki looked amused. "You want to say something to me, Gackt?"
"It is not fair of you to keep on pushing me. I do all the work, while you get the name and credit for merely shaking your legs. I think that I..."
"That you what? Deserve something in return?" Takeki asked. "You're working under me so you have to do as I say. And I resent you saying that bit about me shaking my legs. I do my part too."
"All you do is suck up to your bosses."
Takeki stood up from his seat. "What did you say?"
"You..."
Takeki looked at the blond. "I dare you to repeat that, Gackt. But first, I must warn you that if you wish to stay with a job, you had better know how to behave towards your superior."
Gackt looked away, biting his lower lip.
"Come on...say whatever you want. I have been thinking about having a cut from your pay."
"What? You can't do that!"
"And why not?"
"Because I am a good worker. I do what needs to be done and I do it well."
Takeki shrugged. "If you're not happy, then you can remember what you just said and use it for next time when you go for a job interview."
"I am not quitting!"
"Then enjoy the pay cut...and bear in mind to work double the amount you've put in."
As soon as that was said, there was a knock on the office door.
"Come in." Takeki spoke, his eyes on Gackt the whole while.
A long-haired blond entered the room. "Takeki."
"Mana, how nice of you to drop in. I just wanted to comment on what a good job you've been doing." Then Takeki turned to Gackt, a smile on his face. "Anytime you want to go, Mana will gladly replace you."
**********
Hyde watched on quietly as Gackt threw paper after paper onto the floor. It didn't take long before the piano was surrounded by lots of crumpled paper.
Glancing at the clock, he saw that it was dinner time.
It looked like Gackt wasn't going to stop. He had gone straight to the piano as soon as he got home. And so far he only seemed to get much more frustrated with whatever he had been scribbling.
Hyde wondered about what had happened at work. Gackt had been cheery that morning, but gloomy as he returned.
As Hyde looked back at the blond, he saw another ball of paper flying onto the floor again.
Shaking his head, Hyde walked over to Gackt. "Hey, why don't you take a break? You can work again after-"
"Can you leave me alone?" The blond snapped. "I'm really busy."
"Sorry..." Hyde mumbled before taking a few steps back. Gackt was clearly agitated. "Maybe...I'll go and cook ne?"
"Whatever, just go..." Gackt muttered before angrily crumpling another piece of paper.
Hyde looked on worriedly before turning around and heading to the kitchen.
Chopping the ingredients he needed, the brunette got curious as to why Gackt was so angry.
"Maybe that's what it is like to work in the music industry..." Hyde mumbled thoughtfully.
It wasn't long before everything was cooked.
The brunette wondered if he should serve dinner. He wasn't really hungry, but Gackt could certainly use a break.
Going back into the living room, Hyde saw more papers being crumpled and tossed away.
Cautiously he walked over to the piano where Gackt was. The blond was writing something onto a new piece of paper.
"Umm...Gackt?" Hyde called out softly.
There was the sound of the pencil snapping before Gackt muttered some curses.
"Dinner is ready ne..."
The blond still didn't reply. Putting the pencil aside, he grabbed another one and began writing again.
Hyde sighed. No matter how insistent Gackt was with his work, Hyde knew that the blond had better stop and eat something first.
Placing a hand on Gackt's shoulder, Hyde felt the blond stiffen.
Gackt looked up at Hyde unhappily. "What do you want?"
"I...I cooked something for you. Please go and eat it."
"I thought I asked you to leave me alone! I have work to do and I don't need you to bother me."
"But-"
"If I don't do this right I might lose my job, and I won't have any money to pay the rent. So just let me do my work, okay?"
"Gackt, please...it's not good to-"
The blond stood up, glaring at Hyde. "Are you deaf or something? Didn't you hear what I said? Just leave me alone!"
The brunette looked away, his lower lip quivering.
Gackt realised then that he had just yelled right into the face of the very person who had been nice enough to let him stay in his apartment.
"No wait..." Gackt saw that Hyde was going to run away to his room. "I didn't mean-"
He wasn't able to finish before he heard the sound of the door slamming shut.
**********
"shit...trust me to get angry at Hyde...of all people..." Gackt shook his head in disbelief. Knocking on the door, he felt even more guilty. "Hyde? I'm sorry. Can you please open the door?"
There was no answer.
"I was really stressed out with work...I'm sorry..." Gackt knocked again. "Please open the door, Hyde."
When there was no reply again, Gackt pressed the button by the side of the door.
"Please open...I'm so sorry..." Gackt mumbled, wishing that he hadn't shouted at Hyde.
There was a wait, before a voice called out softly, "The door's not locked..."
Lowering his gaze to the doorknob, Gackt opened the door. As he pushed his way in, he realised that he had never been to Hyde's room before. It was usually closed, and there was also no reason for Gackt to go into it.
Looking around, he found that it was a nice cozy room.
There were also some coloured lights on one of the walls. Two of them were orange and they had the words 'door' and 'room' on them.
Gackt wondered what they were for.
Maybe Hyde really had a thing for these type of things.
"What do you want?" Hyde asked, sounding like he had been crying.
Gackt turned to the white bed by the side of the room. The brunette had wrapped himself up with a blanket and was lying there, looking like he was planning to sleep.
"I want to sleep. If you don't have anything to say, then go out and do your stupid work!" Hyde spoke, before frowning slightly. "And I don't mind you staying here at all. It's not for the money and I'm not bothered at all, if you don't pay the rent."
"Hyde, I'm sorry. I got caught up in my work and I-"
"Go away! I want to sleep."
Gackt sighed. "I really appreciate you cooking dinner for me..."
Hyde rolled his eyes before hugging his pillow.
"Is there anything I can do for you in return?"
Hyde was quiet before finally answering. "Yes."
Gackt brightened up. At least Hyde was willing to forgive him.
"So what will it be?"
"Go and die."
Gackt didn't know how to reply to that.
"Just remember not to do it in my house. Get out...and with at least a few meters away from my door, you can start strangling yourself or something."
"Hyde..."
"But of course, the further away you are the better."
"Hyde."
"I don't want to be responsible for your death and have the police arresting me or something thinking that I killed you..."
"Hyde, please..."
"What?" The brunette looked at Gackt in annoyance.
"Okay, I'm sorry...and I'll let you sleep alright?" Gackt walked over to the drawer. "Umm...how about if I set your alarm clock for you?"
"There's no need to suck up to me. You can continue on staying here."
"No, really...what time do you want to wake up?"
Hyde seemed to think about the question. "Umm...nine tomorrow morning."
"Really?" Gackt was surprised. "That's quite a number of hours from now. Are you sure you don't want to wake up earlier? Like maybe later at night?"
"I don't care...you can just leave the clock alone. I don't use that anymore."
"No no...it's no problem. I'll set it..." Gackt picked up the clock at the top of the drawer. Then he noticed the huge ring sitting beside it.
"Hey, don't touch that. It's mine!"
"Just taking a look." Gackt mumbled, placing it back. "Did someone give it to you?"
"Nope, I bought it myself a couple of years ago."
"That's nice."
"Oh?" Hyde looked at Gackt. "It would be nicer of you get out of my room."
"Okay okay...I get the message already..."
**********
He had eaten dinner by himself and watched tv for awhile, before going to sleep. The whole time Hyde didn't come out of his room.
It was either he really was asleep, or maybe Hyde was avoiding him.
Which was of no surprise.
And now it was already morning.
"I wonder if he is going to come out of his room today. Hmm...maybe I'll cook instead..." Gackt thought aloud. "Or something else...how do I apologise to him?"
Then he heard the sound of the alarm clock ringing.
"At least I know that he will be awake." Gackt mumbled as he laid back on the bed.
Looking at his own clock, he sat up, waiting for Hyde to press down on the alarm or something.
"Maybe he couldn't get up..." Gackt wondered.
It was taking a while, and the ringing was getting on his nerves.
"Never mind, I'll wait some more..."
Getting off the bed, Gackt went into the bathroom.
Washing up, he emerged from it after awhile to find the clock still ringing.
Gackt frowned. "Maybe I should wake him up."
Walking across the room, he was about to open the door of his room when he heard the sound of the piano.
He couldn't exactly say that it was the sound of the piano being played. It was more like hitting the keys and producing noise instead of music.
Gackt got even more puzzled. What was going on?
Walking out of his room, Gackt saw that Hyde's room door was open.
"Eh?"
At that moment, there were still sounds coming from the piano, making Gackt wonder if there was someone else in the house.
Deciding to stop the alarm clock first, Gackt entered Hyde's room.
As he walked to the drawers, he noticed that the bed was made...empty.
So Hyde was awake...
"Then why didn't he turn off the alarm?"
Gackt didn't want to get paranoid, but he suddenly felt suspicious.
Maybe Hyde had gone out for awhile, and meantime a burglar of some sort had come into the house.
Though Gackt had no idea why there would be a burglar playing the piano.
Maybe he thought that there was no one in the house...
Warily, Gackt crept out of the room.
Walking on, he stopped as he reached the living room.
There was no burglar.
It was just Hyde sitting by the piano.
"Hey..." Gackt called out. "Didn't you hear the clock? Why didn't you turn the alarm off?"
There was no reply as the brunette kept playing the keys of the piano, a distant look on his face.
Hyde was obviously in one of those deep thoughts again.
"Hyde?" The blond walked over. "What are you doing?"
There was no answer.
"Hyde." Gackt called out louder, walking over to the brunette.
Then before he could reach Hyde, the brunette suddenly banged down on the keys, making a loud noise.
Gackt froze, surprised by the action.
No matter how deep in thought he was, Hyde couldn't possibly have not heard the alarm clock.
And from the way he was playing the piano, he looked frustrated.
It was as though he had no idea that he was making noise of it.
It was as if...
Frowning, Gackt took a few steps back.
He thought he saw something in Hyde's room.
Turning around, he went back to the brunette's room, walking back to the drawer.
There, right beside a beeper.
**********
Ken looked at Gackt surprised. "What is it? When you called me over the phone I thought someone had died."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Gackt demanded.
"Tell you what?"
Gackt reached his hand into his pocket and placed the object right in front of Ken's face. "What is this?"
There was recognition on Ken's face, before it was replaced with a blank look. "I don't know..."
"Stop playing around and tell me."
"It's...a highly sophisticated really mini cd player. And I mean REALLY mini cd player."
"Ken..."
"They have these REALLY tiny cds and Hyde's just trying out one of them." Ken went on. "It's a new product, given to only a few people-"
"KEN." Gackt gave him a warning look.
"Alright..." Ken sighed. Then he turned to his left. "Uh...waiter?"
Gackt sighed. "That can wait, Ken..."
"I'll have this...this...this..." Ken pointed to the menu, addressing the waiter who had just walked over.
Gackt bit his lip before glaring at the waiter. "Can you go away and come back later?"
"Ah..." The young man gave a nervous look to Ken. "But he wants to order..."
"I said later! Now get away from our table before I tug off all of your purple hair!"
"Right." The man quickly walked away.
As he was gone, Gackt looked at Ken. "Quit stalling and just tell me, alright? I'm not mad, but I can't believe that you didn't tell me earlier!"
"You sure sound mad..." Ken mumbled. "And does it matter whether you know about it or not?"
"Maybe not...it doesn't change anything...but I am living with him, for goodness' sake!"
"Yeah...you're right." Ken looked at the object in Gackt's hand. "Okay...that thing you have in your hand is a hearing aid. An old one that Hyde is no longer using."
Gackt didn't answer, looking on at the table.
"The reason Hyde has it is because he's..."
"Why didn't you tell me, Ken? Did you know...just yesterday I asked him if he was DEAF?" Gackt spoke, appearing irritated with himself.
Ken looked at the table. "He didn't want you to know."
"Who didn't?"
"Hyde."
"And why doesn't he want me to know?" Gackt looked at Ken.
"For some reasons. People tend to look at you differently when they know there's something wrong with you."
"Wrong?"
"Well..." Ken shrugged. "I don't mean exactly wrong...more like different."
"But I'm living with him. It is obvious that I would eventually find out."
"I guess he's hoping that you won't." Ken looked at the blond. "Either that or he has a feeling you won't be living there long enough to find out."[/brown]

Yak, minna ini lanjutannya... [brown]Title: To Hear The Music4 Rating: PG Pairing: Gackt x Hyde
Gackt looked at the object in his hand. "So he uses this to hear?"
"Pretty much." Ken nodded. "Without it, he can't really hear much or not at all. But there are rare times that without it he can hear a little."
"Oh?"
"It's hard to say really...he needs to get his ears checked but he refuses to go see his audiologist anymore."
"Is...is his condition serious?"
Ken pondered the question for awhile. "Probably...even with that thing he can't hear well sometimes."
"But..." Gackt looked thoughtful. "I don't see him wearing it for the past days, and it looked like he heard what I've been saying."
"He wears it. At the same time he also speechreads what you're saying."
"What?"
"Lipread. In a way, he is guessing what you're saying if he can't hear it."
"He can do that?"
"Yeah." Ken nodded. "It takes practice, but I think he can guess correctly most of the time. Of course, gestures would help him better too."
Gackt didn't know how to answer. His eyes remained looking at the table.
"But for that he needs to see you to be able to do it. He makes sure to look at you when there's a conversation going on, in case his ears fail to catch what you're saying."
"I think..." Gackt mumbled, all the information processing in his brain. "This is quite a lot to take in at a time..."
"These kind of things are usually like that."
"Has Hyde always been like this?"
"Nope." Ken stirred his coffee. "It was an accident. I wasn't there at the time, away on some work trip, so I don't know the details. But since then, his hearing has never been like it was."
"It must be shocking..."
"At first his hearing wasn't too bad...Hyde thought the problem would go away, but then after a few days, his hearing slowly got worse. Now Hyde has coped with it for a few years already."
Gackt looked at Ken. "It's no wonder that there were some things..."
"Some things what?" Ken asked curiously.
"Like always seeming to be deep in thought...not being able to hear the alarm clock...and all that..."
"He uses a different one now...a vibrating clock that he places under his pillow."
"Oh..."
"And he had also wanted to play the piano." Ken spoke up. "That's why he got one...though he hadn't had the chance to learn it yet. Now he's lost his enthusiasm for it I guess."
"Then..." Gackt felt disconcerted. "What about television? How does he watch it? And what about doorbells? Or..."
Ken smiled slightly, meaning to be reassuring. "Gackt, there are too many things that can be asked. You'll know and get used to them over time. That is, if you still want to stay there..."
"And why wouldn't I?" Gackt immediately asked.
Ken shrugged. "It takes a bit more effort to communicate with Hyde. Not many people would want to bother with that."
"You mean some people don't?"
"His friends...some left him after he couldn't hear. Honestly, even I needed time to adapt to him."
"It's sad that his friends would do that..."
"Unfortunately..." Ken agreed. "But it is difficult for people to be understanding and patient with him. As for me, I'm already used to it."
Gackt kept quiet as he appeared deep in thought.
"So..." Ken looked up at him. "Have you confronted Hyde about what you know?"
Gackt hesitated for a moment "Actually...no...not really. I just went back to my room and acted as though nothing had happened."
"Oh..."
"Maybe I find it all a little hard to believe right now...even after what you've told me."
"You don't believe it?" Ken asked.
Gackt didn't answer right away. He didn't seem to be able to reply.
"Gackt?"
"I don't know..." The blond finally mumbled.
He had already spent a number of days with Hyde and it was only now that he found out that the brunette was deaf.
Hyde looked too normal.
Then again, most deaf people would. They don't sit on wheelchairs or carry walking sticks...
But what if Ken and Hyde were playing a trick on him?
Gackt but his lower lip.
It seemed highly unlikely.
But then...
Maybe he would rather think it was that, then thinking that there was something wrong...or less normal about Hyde.
**********
Gackt stood outside the bathroom, glancing at his watch. Hyde had been in there for awhile and Gackt was thinking of maybe just leaving for work.
But since he had a car, and it looked Hyde was going out too, considering that the brunette had gotten up earlier than usual, he might as well offer him a lift. If Hyde wanted one anyway.
It was possibly because he wanted to be especially nice to Hyde.
Especially after what he knew now.
He hadn't the chance to talk to Hyde at all the day before, after getting home from his talk with Ken.
The brunette had seemed busy with something and had kept to staying in his room. So Gackt had no opportunity of confronting Hyde then.
Now as Gackt stood by the bathroom door, he suddenly felt like a pervert.
Of course, such intentions never really crossed his mind.
But still...
Maybe he should step away before Hyde got the wrong idea.
Then, before he could come to a decision, the bathroom door opened and Hyde stepped out.
"Eh? Gackt?" The brunette looked at him with wide eyes, as he almost bumped into him. "What are you doing standing here?"
"I uh...it's...umm..."
On seeing the face in front of him, somehow Gackt forgot what he wanted to say.
Hyde looked at him, waiting for an answer.
Gackt in turn looked him up and down. Hyde was dressed, ready to go it appeared.
"What were you doing in there?" The blond found himself blurting.
There goes the curiosity...
Hyde raised an eyebrow. "And why do you want to know?"
"I..." Gackt realised what he had said. "I was just wondering...I mean, you took a long time in there but you're all dressed...I thought you were bathing..."
"You expected me to be bathing?"
"Yes...no...uh, don't get any wrong ideas...me standing by the door...while thinking you were inside bathing...undressed...wait, no...forget about that...I mean..."
Gackt was rambling. He didn't think he usually did that.
Maybe he was guilty.
Guilty? Of what?
Just what was he thinking?
For once Gackt felt out of sorts. He suddenly felt confused.
"Actually..." Hyde frowned slightly. "That never crossed my mind...but now that you mentioned it..."
"NO no...I wouldn't do such a thing." Gackt spoke again.
"Gackt?"
"Y-Yes?"
Hyde suddenly smiled. "Why are you getting so flustered?"
"Eh?" Gackt looked at the brunette who had an amused look on his face.
Maybe it was partly because of what Ken had told him...mixed with himself feeling unnecessary guilt...or he was worried that Hyde would get the wrong idea...then there was the whole yelling scene from two days back...
"I was just cleaning my ring." Hyde lifted his hand. "It got dirty while I was cleaning my room yesterday."
"Oh." So that's what Hyde had been doing. And it was no wonder he was busy the whole time yesterday.
"Anyway." The brunette looked curious. "What is it that you want?"
"Huh?"
"If you're standing here...I guess you're waiting for me?"
"Eh?"
"Or are you in serious need to pee?"
"N-No." Gackt remembered what he had wanted to do. "I...I was about to go to work...and I wanted to ask if you wanted a ride somewhere."
"Really?" Hyde looked surprised. "You're offering me a ride?"
"Yeah."
"That's nice of you...but I'm only going downstairs."
"Downstairs?"
"To the park...going to sit there. It's morning...want to get some fresh air..."
"Oh." Gackt felt a little disappointed. Maybe he had wanted company for a while more as he drove.
"Thanks anyway." Hyde smiled.
Gackt looked at the brunette for awhile before speaking up. "Hey...I...I'm sorry about yelling at you...."
"It's alright."
"I still feel awful about it."
Hyde smiled. "I'm fine...don't worry about it."
"You sure?"
"Yup." Hyde looked at Gackt. "Hmm...just for the sake of it, why don't we hug...and be friends?"
"Kind of like the kiss-and-make-up thing couples do..."
"Yeah." Hyde nodded. "This is umm...hug-and-make-up...the thing friends do."
"Right...friends." Gackt found himself smiling slightly.
"So..."
Gackt nodded, before wrapping his arms around Hyde's smaller frame. The brunette didn't seem to find it at all uncomfortable and rested his head against Gackt's taller frame.
They were friends...that was a start.
Maybe they would get along better now.
As he was thinking it over, Gackt suddenly realised that Hyde had his own arms around him and the thought made him feel funny all of a sudden.
The warmth against him, it felt nice.
Too nice.
"Uh..." Gackt quickly pulled Hyde's arms away from him. "I've got to get going."
"Oh...right." The brunette nodded, smiling sheepishly.
"Thanks for the hug." Gackt smiled.
"Ah...no problem." Hyde smiled back. "I just wanted to take the opportunity to hug you."
Gackt wasn't sure if he heard that correctly. "Eh?"
"Uh...hahahahaha..." Hyde suddenly scratched his head, a silly grin on his face. "I was just joking. Right. Joking."
Gackt looked at Hyde for a few moments before smiling himself.
"Forget I said that ne...hope I haven't made you feel weird." Hyde spoke, his tone teasing.
"N-No, of course not."
"In that case, let's get moving ne..." Hyde spoke, looking embarrassed.
"Yeah." Gackt wondered why Hyde had that expression on his face.
As they walked, Gackt realised that he still hadn't told Hyde what Ken had let him know.
It appeared that it would have to wait till later or tomorrow.
**********
He was supposed to meet Toshiya here. He didn't want to, but the blue-haired had been bugging him a lot.
As Gackt waited by his table, he saw the waiter from before nearby.
The one who he had threatened to pull his hair off.
Now as Gackt thought about it, the threat was actually rather dumb.
But then, he had been annoyed at that time.
"Maybe I should apologise for my little...outburst." The blond looked at the waiter before motioning for him to come over.
Gackt noticed a slight wary look in the waiter's eyes as he walked over.
"Y-Yes?" The purple-haired mumbled.
Gackt looked at the man's name pinned on his uniform. "Kaoru?"
"H-Hai."
"Why do you look scared?" Gackt asked.
"N-Nothing."
"I just wanted to apologise for yesterday...for being rude."
"It...it's alright."
"I'm really not going to pull off your hair."
"Oh." Kaoru looked at Gackt. "I know...thank you."
"Eh? Why are you thanking me?"
"I don't know." The purple-haired mumbled, pushing back longer strands of his hair.
"Anyway, I happen to come here quite often so I didn't want to...scare you."
"Okay...can I go now?"
"You still look uncomfortable."
"Umm..."
"Kaoru!" Someone yelled from the kitchen. "Call for you."
"Ah..." The purple-haired looked up. "Tell him I'm busy...working. Maybe call back later..."
"It's your friend. Said that he managed to find a job."
"Really?" Kaoru smiled. "Hyde?"
At the name, Gackt quickly looked up. This waiter knew Hyde? Or was it another person with the same name?
He was about to ask, when he sensed someone else nearby. Turning around, he saw Toshiya standing by the table, a smile on his face.
"Toshiya..." Gackt mumbled. He was about to turn back to the waiter but he was gone.
"Hey..." Toshiya placed a hand above Gackt's on the table. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing." Gackt managed a smile.
The blue-haired took a seat before him. "I heard Takeki has intentions of replacing you."
"Oh? From who?"
"People..." Toshiya answered vaguely. "Mana suggested to Takeki about hiring someone else to take his place...while he took yours."
"Why's that?"
"Mana appears to really dislike you. Anyway, Takeki has always wanted to get rid of you because he wasn't able to control and make you work as he liked. The two talked it over and they're going to make you quit somehow."
"I already feel like it." Gackt muttered.
"No...don't do that." Toshiya looked at the blond. "Then I won't be seeing you around anymore."
"Toshiya...I feel like I want to do more. All I do now is just write music as they instruct me to do. Then they change and edit it and get all the credit. I don't want that kind of work."
"But if you quit, it won't be easy to find another job. Besides, you'll be letting Mana and Takeki win."
"Toshiya, it's not about winning or losing. Staying on, I'll just be miserable..."
Toshiya bit his lip, his voice growing soft. "Then what about me, Gackt?"
The blond looked at him. "I think you've gotten it wrong. You're a great person, Toshiya...but I don't have those kind of feelings for you."
"How about..." The blue-haired took Gackt's hand. "Why don't you spend a night at my place? Maybe I'll convince you otherwise."
"Toshiya..."
"Please."
**********
"Thanks for spending time with me."
"Hey, it's no problem. I finished work already...and anyway, we should celebrate a little don't we?"
Hyde looked at Kaoru. "We should?"
"Because you got a job."
The brunette immediately smiled. "It's nothing special."
"But you were kind of disappointed when they fired you the last time. It's great that Ken managed to get you another one..."
"I guess..."
"Hey, cheer up." Kaoru placed an arm around Hyde's shoulder. "A job is better than no job ne? I mean, considering that you are..."
Hyde looked at the ground thoughtfully.
"I'm sorry." Kaoru spoke as he held on to Hyde's hand. "It's just...I don't know..."
"It's alright."
"Maybe...I should just keep my mouth shut."
Hyde smiled, squeezing the purple-haired's hand. "I'm not mad, Kaoru. You're a great friend and I'm happy that you managed to stick with me this long."
"Hey, I'm not going to leave a friend like those dumb insensitive jerks."
"Kaoru...it's okay. I know that it's not easy to be my friend...and getting my attention is a bit troublesome."
"No, it's not at all troublesome..."
"And the last time...I was purposely being difficult...maybe I hated myself then, and everything else..."
"Ne...it's not always easy to accept when it happens to you. But now everything is alright, isn't it?"
"Un." Hyde nodded. "I feel like I always have...only difference now is when I don't have the aid on."
"And sometimes when you can't hear things properly even with it on."
"Yeah."
"But no matter what, you're still the same nice person I've always known."
Hyde stopped walking and looked at Kaoru. "Hontou?"
"Of course." Kaoru smiled. "Except for the times when I beat you at the arcade. Then you would get really pissed off."
"Come on, who would like to lose ne?"
"If you say so." Kaoru smiled.
"Baka..." Hyde spoke before walking ahead. Then he stopped and turned to face Kaoru. "You know...sometimes I would not use the hearing aid, when I'm alone at home."
"But you can't do that now because you have someone living with, right?"
"I guess. But sitting there by myself, I'm kind of used to the silence now. It used to be overbearing...but now that's the way it is. And if there are sounds I can hear, they all sound kind of...soft."
Kaoru looked at Hyde. "Ano...have you ever thought about hearing properly again?"
Hyde didn't answer right away.
"I said something wrong again, didn't I?"
"No..." Hyde smiled at his friend. "It's just that...I'm fine the way I am now. I might be kind of miserable, but I'm still living alright. To hear properly again feels sort of intrusive now...like all the sounds would be entering my little sanctuary of peace..."
As Hyde looked up, he saw Kaoru looking at him dumbly.
The brunette smiled. "You don't understand it, right?"
"I always thought that maybe you had been wishing to hear."
"Not everyone with my condition thinks the same way I do, I guess...though sometimes I do wish things were normal...it's all rather confusing...I don't really know how I feel about it. Besides, I don't think deafness is something that can be cured." Hyde spoke, before changing the subject. "Kaoru...let's just go where we want to go ne?"
"Ah...sure."
"So where do you want to celebrate?"
"How about a pub?" Kaoru suggested.
"Umm...I don't know..."
Kaoru looked at Hyde. "Then...how about a movie?"
"Well..."
"Or shopping? I got my pay today...maybe I'll buy you something. It's not too late...the shops might still be open."
"You don't have to get me anything, Kaoru..."
The purple-haired smile. "Just a gift for a friend."
Hyde smiled in reply as they walked on.
As they past by several buildings, Hyde saw two people emerging from a car.
"Gackt..." Hyde mumbled, recognising the blond. "And Toshiya."
He had received a call from Gackt, saying that he wouldn't be home that night. Hyde didn't know the two had that type of relationship together.
"He's going home with Toshiya..."
"Hyde?" Kaoru looked at the brunette. "What are you looking at?"
"N-Nothing. Let's go..."[/brown]

[brown]Title: To Hear The Music5 Rating: PG Pairing: Gackt x Hyde
Gackt gave a soft sigh as he closed the apartment door behind him. When he had left Toshiya's place earlier, the blue-haired wasn't in the best of moods.
It was no wonder though.
Toshiya had practically thrown himself at him, but all Gackt did was talk and drank from the can offered to him. And he appeared to be more interested in keeping his eyes to the television screen than to his companion.
Of course, that was done on purpose. Gackt didn't want to encourage Toshiya at all.
No matter how attractive or tempting the blue-haired was.
And Toshiya must have found it rather insulting.
Especially when he was apparently turning on his charms, and at the end of the day Gackt still didn't pay him any more attention than before.
That night, as Gackt had talked with Toshiya, he was thinking about having Hyde for company instead.
The reason for it wasn't something he was sure about.
But then Hyde didn't always make an attempt to sit on his lap and wrap his arms around his neck.
Calling Gackt constantly and such, making himself annoying when he was being ignored.
Of course, Hyde didn't see him the way Toshiya did. They still knew each other just recently after all.
But the thought of Hyde sitting in his lap with his arms around his neck, pulling him close...
The blond stopped.
Maybe the effect of the drinks he had the night before just hadn't worn off yet...
Gackt tried to focus his attention back to his current problem.
How was he going to see Toshiya again after that awkward parting in the morning?
"Toshiya pretty much said that he didn't want to see me again." Gackt mumbled, before walking over to the sofa.
As he did, he saw Hyde sleeping on it, with pieces of what appeared to be wrapping paper on his lap.
There was a small paper bag on the table and a cap with the words, "I'm living with an idiot" on it.
Gackt gave the cap a curious glance before sitting down on the sofa, beside the brunette's sleeping form.
Hyde appeared to be comfortably asleep.
Gackt looked on for awhile before raising a hand and lightly touching Hyde's face.
"So..." Gackt mumbled. "What did you do while I wasn't home yesterday?"
There was no answer of course, but he just felt the need to say something.
Without thinking much about it, Gackt moved slightly forward, bringing his face closer to Hyde's.
"Maybe I've been having too much to drunk...all the while last night..." The blond mumbled to himself. Then he pressed his lips lightly against Hyde's cheek.
"Unn..." Hyde moved slightly, his hand swatting away at his cheek, as though an annoying insect had just landed there.
Gackt felt amused, before moving back into his seated position. "Ne...you don't seem to appreciate my kiss."
Hyde sleepily opened his eyes, realising that someone was on the sofa with him.
"Gackt?" Hyde mumbled in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"Hmm? I live here, don't I?" Gackt asked. "Or you don't want me to live here anymore?"
"Eh?" Hyde rubbed his eyes sleepily as he sat up. "Right...you do live here. Sorry...I'm feeling a little disoriented."
"I take it that you're still mad at me, huh?" Gackt spoke, picking up the cap from the table.
"Eh?" Hyde looked at the cap and smiled sheepishly. "Oh...no, I'm not mad. I was shopping with a friend and he thought that the cap was funny. Besides, there was nothing else to buy."
"I see." Gackt nodded. "So...you went shopping yesterday, eh?"
"Yup."
"With your friend...and then came here afterwards?"
Hyde nodded. "Yeah...why?"
"Just asking."
"So umm..." It was Hyde's turn to ask, even though he was trying to appear not too curious. "Where did you go last night?"
"Oh, I stayed at a friend's."
"Really? The blue-haired guy, huh?"
"You saw?"
"Yeah...while I was walking along the streets. Of course...not that it's any problem..." Hyde then went on. "I mean, it's perfectly alright to spend the night with a friend of yours. Spend the night and do things...with a friend..."
Gackt looked at Hyde curiously.
"So is this Toshiya a friend friend or a more-than-a-friend friend?" Hyde asked, looking at Gackt with large eyes.
"What?" Gackt didn't think he quite caught what the brunette was trying to ask.
Hyde seemed to realised then that he had been babbling and immediately gave a sheepish grin. "Ah...forget the question. I was just curious...don't mind me."
"Curious?"
"Yeah." Hyde nodded. "After all, you didn't come home and it just got me wondering if-"
"If what?" Gackt asked, one end of his lips curving up in amusement.
"Nothing." Hyde dismissed the question.
"If nothing?"
"Forget it, drop the whole thing. Who cares if you spent the night there...or slept with him- I mean, not literally of course...the thought never crossed my mind. It's none of my business anyway. It's not like I'm jealous or anything...of course...who would be-"
"Hyde?"
"Uh..." The brunette had a feeling that he might have spoken too much. "Yes?"
"Did you say jealous?"
"Jealous? I meant it in terms of company...you know, I didn't have any company. I wasn't referring to the jealous of maybe thinking of you in bed with him or-" Hyde stopped abruptly. "Oh shit."
Gackt could only watch him, feeling a little puzzled.
Hyde looked at Gackt. "Uh...could you pretend that I just woke up and this conversation never happened?"
"Eh?" Gackt scratched his head. "Oh...okay..."
"Good." Hyde got off the sofa and went to his room, slamming the door shut quickly.
Gackt sat on the sofa for awhile, confused. Then after waiting for a few minutes he walked over to Hyde's room door and knocked on it. "Hyde?"
There was a moment of silence. "Yes?"
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine..."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"And actually..." Gackt spoke. "All I did at Toshiya's place was was chat, drink and watch television."
"Oh?"
"Just wanted to tell you that."
"Uh...okay."
"It wasn't all that great, I was kind of persuaded to go there actually. In fact, even though I've known you for a short while, I think you are more interesting for company than Toshiya."
"Really?" Hyde's tone sounded hopeful.
"Yeah."
"Oh..." Hyde seemed to consider for awhile. "Uh...I don't know how to reply to that..."
Gackt smiled. "Can you come out for a sec?"
"Why?"
"Because I want to talk to you, not the door."
The door opened soon after, Hyde standing there awkwardly. "What is it?"
"Well...I was wondering if you want to go out together."
"Today?" Hyde looked surprised. "Don't you have to go to work?"
"Nope, not today. Anyway, I feel like going out."
"Oh..."
"We'll have lunch and do other things. How about that?"
"I don't know..." Hyde looked at Gackt. "Why are you suddenly wanting to go out with me?"
Gackt smiled. "Because I missed you yesterday."
"Eh?"
Gackt leaned forward and planted a light kiss on Hyde's cheek. "So get ready and we can go out in awhile, alright?"
Hyde could only look on with wide eyes as Gackt turned back to go to his room.
**********
"How about this place?" Gackt asked. "The food is pretty good."
"Uh...anything's fine."
"So shall we eat here?"
"Sure." Hyde nodded, looking at Gackt.
The blond smiled at him. "You look a little nervous? What's up?"
"I'm not nervous. Just wondering why you're being nice to me."
"You mean I can't?"
"It's not that. About what you said just now..."
"What did I say?"
"I..." Hyde looked at the ground before turning to Gackt. "I missed you too yesterday."
Gackt didn't know how to reply and simply turned back his attention to the entrance of the restaurant.
"Umm...forget it." Hyde spoke again, scratching his head. "Forget what I just said."
Gackt smiled. "Do you want to kiss me on the cheek too?"
"Are you teasing me?" Hyde looked like he was going to pout.
"Of course not." Gackt placed an arm around Hyde's frame. "Anyway, I owe you this treat, don't I?"
"Why's that?"
"For yelling at you."
"I said it was alright. You don't have to feel bad up to today."
"I just feel bad." Gackt replied. Even more so now that he knew Hyde wasn't hearing as people normally would.
Or was that considered out of pity?
It didn't take long before they were seated inside the place.
Gackt suddenly saw Toshiya some tables away, glaring at him. Apparently the blue-haired was there too.
Pulling his eyes away from the deathly stare Toshiya was giving him, Gackt focused them on the brunette in front of him.
"Hey."
The brunette looked up. "What?"
"It's a nice place ne?"
"Yeah." Hyde nodded.
"Umm...are you done eating?" Gackt suddenly asked.
"Why?" Hyde asked, looking at him curiously. "Are you in a hurry to leave?"
"Well..." Gackt looked down at his plate of food. "No, but..."
The thought of Toshiya's stare wasn't very comforting.
"If you want to go, I'm done I guess." Hyde smiled.
Gackt immediately looked at the empty plate beside his. "You certainly eat fast."
"Ah...I was hungry."
Gackt smiled. But before he could speak Hyde suddenly stood up.
"Excuse me for a while...need to go-"
"Pee?"
"Whatever." Hyde smiled. "I'll be back in a while."
"Don't get stuck in the toilet." Gackt spoke before Hyde left.
**********
Gackt looked at his watch. Hyde was certainly taking his time.
"He couldn't possibly be in there powdering his nose or something...what's taking him so long?" Gackt wondered.
The blond waited a while more before heading to where he guessed Hyde should be. As soon as he pushed the door open, he saw Hyde near the sink, looking a little distressed.
"Hey, is something wrong?" Gackt asked, feeling a bit worried. "I was waiting for you."
Hyde shook his head. "Can we leave?"
"What happened? Were there a lot of people moments ago?"
Hyde frowned for a moment as he looked at Gackt. Then he shook his head.
"Hyde?"
"Nothing."
"Come on. Tell me what's wrong. You were happy moments ago."
"It's nothing."
"Then..."
"I can't find my..." Hyde trailed off.
"Your what?"
"It's no big deal...I just don't feel so comfortable with the sudden..." Hyde hesitated, looking uncomfortable.
"Sudden what? Hyde, just tell me."
"I...I never told you...anyway I was looking for it near the sink...I think I dropped it while I was trying to adjust it in my ear..."
"Your-"
"Let's just go home. I hate to spoil the day but I don't want to stay out anymore." Hyde spoke, hurrying to the door.
"Wait." Gackt grabbed his arm, stopping him from moving. "Since I live with you, shouldn't some things be confided or shared with me? You expect us to go home, while you remain in this mood? We're friends aren't we? Can't I know what's bothering you?"
"I told you, it's no big deal!"
"Hyde..."
The brunette looked irritated. "Fine. I lost my hearing aid, alright?"
"You what?"
"I'm deaf. Hear that? I'm deaf! I'm barely making out the things you're saying, and I'm tired of straining what's left of my little hearing and I'm also tired of using my efforts to lipread. So now I'm going home while you can go and enjoy the rest of the day with some hearing-abled person."
"Hyde, I didn't mean..."
"See? I'm sharing my problem with you? Isn't that great?" Hyde asked, not bothering to hide his sarcasm. "It makes me feel so much better."
Then without waiting for Gackt to reply, Hyde left the place.
**********
He could hear better again.
Not normally. Or good.
Just better.
He always kept a spare at home.
Hyde looked down at the table. He hadn't meant to yell at Gackt. He was more annoyed at himself for being careless enough to drop his aid, ruining his mood and convenience, equating to ruining the day's plan.
Partly, he was annoyed at himself too. For being...incomplete.
Inadequate.
If he didn't need the hearing aid then there wouldn't be any problem of losing it.
Hyde bit his lower lip.
Maybe he was just lying to himself when he thought that he was alright with his condition. In truth, he was insecure.
Many times he had easily shrugged off the feeling, acting flippant and happy. In a way he was suppressing his feelings. They were still there somewhere and he would have to face them up front someday.
Hyde sighed. Was it so hard to tell Gackt that something was wrong with him?
Did it make him feel different? A lesser being?
Would Gackt see him that way?
Hyde didn't want the blond to leave, he had enjoyed having Gackt around.
The brunette closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
It was always easy to store away the emotions. Temporarily.
Then Hyde heard the sound of the front door opening.
Gackt was home.
**********
Hyde had hurried out of the room to see him.
Gackt was mildly surprised. The brunette looked like his cheerful self, before the scene in the washroom.
"You're back." Hyde spoke.
"Yeah." Gackt nodded. Unlike Hyde who had left him behind, he didn't say.
"I'm...I'm sorry."
Gackt looked concerned. "Are you alright?"
"Yes...I am."
"You don't have to be sorry."
"Eh? No, I shouldn't have yelled at you back then. I'm sorry...I got in a bad mood." Hyde was apologetic. "It's just that it spoiled the day...losing the hearing aid. I had been sort of looking forward to having fun, and now that's ruined. I couldn't possibly spend the whole day without my aid. I'm not so used to that outside my home."
"So that's why you got annoyed."
"I was angry at myself. Not you. I'm sorry for getting upset...and ruining the day."
Gackt looked thoughtful. "Why were you upset at yourself? For your mistake?"
"Of losing the aid."
"Or were you upset about being deaf?"
Hyde's smile faltered a little, a corner of his lips twitching. "No, of course not."
Gackt didn't look convinced.
Hyde got a little annoyed. What sort of question was that to ask? Was he upset about being deaf?
Was he upset?!
Who the hell would be happy?
"There's nothing wrong about being deaf."
"I know that." Hyde mumbled.
"Then why didn't you want to tell me?" Gackt asked, looking Hyde straight in the eyes.
"I..."
"I had to ask Ken to be sure."
Hyde lowered his gaze to the floor. "I'm sorry."
"Hyde, why are you sorry? There's nothing to be sorry about."
"It's..."
"Knowing about it doesn't make me want to leave this apartment, or have any negative feelings towards you. You should have just told me."
"But...others...they find it too troublesome..." Hyde spoke, his voice soft. "They leave when they find out, or when I tell them."
"Not everyone's like that."
"Really?" Hyde didn't look convinced. "I don't want you to stay here out of pity."
"No." Gackt shook his head, feeling certain of it. "I like living here because the apartment's great and I have your company."
"Oh?"
"The main reason that I managed to settle in nicely is because you really welcome me to stay here. And I enjoy watching tv...and talking with you."
"So..." Hyde looked at Gackt. "You really want to stay on here with me?"
"Yes." Gackt nodded. "Nothing changes. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself."
Hyde nodded slowly. "In that case...I'll need to do something about the doorbell then...so you can hear it."
"Oh?"
"Because at the moment it only activates my beeper."
Gackt smiled. "See? Everything's still alright."
"I guess."
"I like you ne..." Gackt spoke up. "You're a nice person and I like living here."
"If you say so."
"You don't seem pleased." Gackt raised an eyebrow. "Or maybe you are the one who doesn't want me to stay here?"
"No no." Hyde looked surprised. "Of course not. I like your company too."
"Really?"
"Un." Hyde nodded, before smiling slightly.
"So that's settled then. I'm staying."
**********
"Sir, would you like to buy some flowers?"
Ken gave no answer as he walked ahead, past the young girl. It was as if he hadn't even been spoken to.
"Ken?" Gackt nudged him.
"Eh?" Ken turned to Gackt. "What?"
"You could at least said no instead of ignoring her like that. She was practically staring at you."
"Oh..." Ken noticed the flower girl. "Sorry...I had things on my mind."
"About what?"
"Band stuff." Ken mumbled. "Tetsu wants to have a serious talk with me. I think he might want to kick me out."
"This leader of yours sounds kind of strict...fierce possibly..."
"Nah..." Ken waved a hand dismissively. "Tetsu's alright. Far from what you said really."
"So are you guys having problems?"
Ken shrugged as they walked on. "Enough about me...so how are you doing?"
"Fine." Gackt answered. "And Hyde knows that I know...about his condition."
"Oh? You confronted him?"
"Sort of..."
"I see." Ken nodded. "That's good. I'm worried about Hyde sometimes..."
"Oh?"
"Keeping things to himself...pretending that he's alright when he's really not..." Ken looked at Gackt. "Anyway, did you guys have fun yesterday?"
Gackt shook his head. "I had planned an interesting outing...but it was sort of ruined. But that didn't matter. I was more worried about Hyde really."
"Is that so..."
"Hey." Gackt suddenly stopped walking as he looked ahead. "Is that Hyde over there?"
Ken squinted his eyes. "Hmm...what's that written on the cap he's wearing?"[/brown]

[brown]Title: To Hear The Music6 Rating: PG Pairing: Gackt x Hyde
Hyde was about to cross the road when he felt someone tapping his shoulder. The brunette turned around to see Gackt smiling at him.
"Hey." Hyde smiled back. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm having a break at the moment..." Gackt replied. "So I went out to meet Ken for awhile. He just left actually."
"Is that so?" Hyde looked at the blond. "I guess you're heading back now, huh?"
"Yes. What about you?"
"Oh. I'm on my way to work."
"At this hour?"
"Yeah...for today only though."
"I see." Gackt smiled. "Well, have a nice day at work."
Hyde looked at the ground before turning to the blond. "Ano..."
"Yes?"
"I'm really sorry about yesterday." Hyde mumbled. "I spoiled the day for you."
"Don't worry about it. We can always go out another time."
"That's true." Hyde looked thoughtful. "But I just want you to know that I did enjoy myself yesterday."
"Really? Or was it just the food?"
"Baka..." Hyde pouted. "There's nothing wrong with enjoying the food."
"I didn't say there was." Gackt smiled. "But you do seem to enjoy it more than most people."
"What- Are you implying that I'm a glutton?!"
"Maybe..."
Hyde punched Gackt on the shoulder before sticking his tongue out at the blond. "Hmph...see if I ever cook for you again."
Gackt smiled. "I have to get back to work."
"Go ahead. I never asked."
"You're a brat ne..." Gackt grinned.
"Am not."
"Yes, you are. I'm starting to notice that now."
"And you are an idiot."
"See what I mean?"
"I am not going to argue with someone who doesn't have a brain."
"Well, I know I am..."
Hyde narrowed his eyes at Gackt. "Go to your work already, before I become late myself!"
Gackt smiled before kissing Hyde on the cheek. Then he walked off before the brunette could yell at him.
**********
"I don't understand it...he always kisses me on the cheek." Hyde mumbled as he sat on the bench. It had already been hours since he had seen Gackt, but the blond was on his mind still. "Maybe he was doing it just to annoy me."
There were several people walking back and forth of him, but none of them seemed to notice his presence.
"Where is Kyo? I'm getting hungry ne..." The brunette glanced at his watch.
His newly made friend was still nowhere in sight.
It wasn't too long however, before he saw Kyo walking to him.
"That took a while..." Hyde spoke, looking at Kyo.
"Sorry...I was discussing some things with the guys."
"I see."
"Nice cap." Kyo commented, looking at the cap on Hyde's head. "Living with someone you hate?"
"Eh? No...umm, I bought it for fun."
"Ah...I see..." Kyo nodded. "So you want to go home now?"
Hyde gave him a look. "Why do you think I'm waiting for you here?"
"Oh right." Kyo scratched his head. "We had agreed to leave together."
"Yeah." Hyde nodded, before crushing the now empty packet of chocolate. "So let's go. I'm hungry."
Kyo looked at the empty snack box in Hyde's other hand. "I can see that..."
"What?" The brunette looked at Kyo.
"N-Nothing." Kyo shook his head. "So you're still hungry, huh?"
"What do you mean by STILL?" Hyde asked, before casually throwing the rubbish in his hands to the bin nearby.
"Never mind." Kyo grinned. "So...anyway, how are you finding the work here?"
"It's okay. Can't say much about it." Hyde shrugged. "The people are fine...you are nice..."
"But?"
Hyde hesitated. "It's just that...I feel like I'm being talked about...behind my back."
Kyo didn't answer right away. Then he smiled. "Of course not. Don't worry about such things."
**********
"Tetsu...please think it over thoroughly. Do you really want to stop and end whatever we've been doing?"
The redhead looked at Ken and sighed. "I don't know. I feel like we're just writing and playing music for fun."
"Okay. You want serious, I'll write more music, alright?"
"What?"
"I'll spend more time and concentrate on-"
"Ken..."
"Look, think it over some more...for days...weeks...okay?" Ken spoke up. "Honestly, I still want to do it, Tetsu. We're still doing alright, aren't we?"
"Maybe..."
"Even Hyde thinks that too."
"Your friend?" Tetsu asked, recognising the name.
"Yeah...the same one who came over not too long ago."
"Ah...I see. Don't think I talked to him."
"You were busy with something then." Ken answered.
Then his cell phone rang, before Ken promptly picked it up.
"Moshi-moshi?"
Tetsu looked on curiously.
"Kyo? Uh...don't think I know you. Oh...Hyde gave you my number in case of emergencies? Uh-huh..." Ken nodded.
Tetsu shrugged before getting up from his seat.
"Did he ask you to call me?" Ken asked. "No?"
"Ken, I'm going off now."
"Yeah sure. Bye Tetsu." Ken smiled at the redhead before turning back to his call. "You want me to what?"
**********
Kyo placed down the phone back on its place and sighed.
If only there weren't mean people working where he and Hyde did.
It would be best if Hyde didn't work there anymore.
He noticed the brunette looking curiously at him from a distance away.
The things those people had said were cruel. Kyo knew they were going to pick on Hyde if he was not around.
"And I'm not cut out to be a bodyguard." Kyo mumbled before lighting a cigarette. "I'm glad we're becoming friends...but Hyde staying there is not going to be good for either of us. Those guys already don't like me. If I have to beat the shit out of them for picking on my friend, I'm going to lose my job. And I know I don't want to lose my job."
Hyde was still looking around, waiting for his bus.
Kyo stubbed out his cigarette before getting up from his seat. Then he turned to the man behind the counter before taking out some notes from his wallet and placing them on the counter. "Here's for the drink."
Then without waiting for a response, he strolled over to the exit, pushing open the glass door.
"Hyde!" He called out as soon as he was outside, waving to the brunette.
He wondered if Hyde was able to hear him. Still, Kyo wanted to yell out all the same, than just waving his arms around like an idiot.
Of course, now he was yelling and waving his arms like an idiot.
Hyde probably heard him and noticed his actions. The brunette hurried over, running from the bus stop where he had been standing at. "What's up, Kyo-chan?"
"Firstly, don't call me that."
"Ah okay...Kyo."
"Better." The blond smiled. "Anyway I was thinking...why don't we have a drink together? You know, spend some time with each other for today...in case we don't get a chance another time."
"Why?" Hyde looked curious. "We'll see each other at work, won't we?"
Kyo shrugged. "I'm just in a mood to spend time with a new friend. I don't have many of those you know..."
"You mean friends?"
"Yeah." Kyo nodded.
"But I don't really drink...much."
Kyo grinned. "Who cares? Let's just go, eh?"
"B-But..."
**********
As he pushed open the door, Gackt overheard singing. At least it sounded something like that.
"Hyde?" The blond called out as he closed the door behind him. He wondered what was going on.
Walking over to the living room, he saw Hyde sprawled on the sofa, still mumbling away.
Gackt frowned, growing concerned. Quickly he went over to the brunette and sat him up. "Hyde, are you okay?"
The brunette looked at Gackt with half-closed eyes and smiled as he was shook slightly. "Gackt...you're back!"
"Are you alright? What happened?"
Hyde shrugged before hiccuping once.
"Where did you go? What's wrong with you?"
"Ne...I don't feel so good..." Hyde mumbled, wincing slightly.
"Hyde?"
"I went drinking with Kyo..." Hyde mumbled, before smiling again. "It was a lot of fun..."
"You got drunk." Gackt stated, holding on to Hyde's shoulders. If he let go, it looked like the brunette was to fall onto the sofa again.
"Nope...actually that was after I got home..." Hyde spoke, before swaying slightly.
"Here...rest against the sofa."
"Umm...sure..." The brunette leaned back.
"You can't even sit straight."
"You know..." Hyde spoke in a dazed tone. "I already threw up a few times..."
"You what?"
"When I got home...after which Ken called and told me that I needed to get a different job." Hyde suddenly looked sad. "I don't understand it...I can do the job as well as anyone else...and so what if I'm deaf? I can hear quite alright with the aid most of the time..."
"Hyde..." Gackt held on to Hyde again, who looked like he was going to fall off sideways.
"Just because they've heard from whoever...that I can't hear normally...people just get biased. Of course, Ken didn't tell me that. He said he just wanted to find me a better job. But I know." Hyde smiled bitterly. "Heck...I've already known it for a few years already..."
"Look, you're not in a proper state of mind. Have a rest, alright?"
"I was upset after Ken called...so I went to a shop not too far off to get myself a drink. I have no idea how I managed to get there...being drunk and all, but I got home alright..." Hyde began to smile again, pointing to some bottles on the table. "Sorry I didn't save any for you..."
Gackt turned around and was surprised to see that they were all empty. "You drank them all?"
"Yeah I did..." Hyde nodded. "It has been hours after all..."
"You..."
"Hmm...now I know why Kyo suddenly asked me for a drink..."
"A drink?" Gackt raised an eyebrow. "You call this just a drink?"
Hyde wasn't listening. "Kyo probably felt pity for me. That's all people ever felt about me..."
"You're not making sense, Hyde..."
The brunette turned to Gackt. "Can you tell me something, Gackt?"
"What about?" Gackt watched Hyde carefully.
"Am I..." Hyde thought the question over. "Am I not likable?"
Gackt was surprised. "What makes you suddenly ask that?"
"Do you like me?" Hyde suddenly smiled again. "I can tell from the way you always kiss me. That maybe you do..."
"Hyde...look...I..."
"But why only on the cheek? Don't you want to kiss me on the lips, Gackt?" The brunette asked teasingly.
Gackt got more concerned. "Hyde, come on, I'll take you to your bed. You need to sleep..."
"I don't want to..." Hyde spoke, even though he made no moves to pull away from Gackt.
As Gackt helped him up, Hyde managed to stand up, though somewhat wobbly.
"Okay...let's go ne?"
"No wait." Hyde held onto the sofa, refusing to move.
"What is it?" Gackt looked at the brunette curiously.
Hyde smiled before shrugging Gackt's hand off him and sitting back onto the sofa.
"Hyde...come on, get up."
"Iie..." The brunette shook his head as he remained sitting. Then, his hands move to his shirt and began to unbutton it.
Gackt's looked at Hyde with wide eyes. "What are you doing?"
"I can't sleep with this shirt on, can I?" Hyde stated simply.
"Hyde, I don't think-"
"Help me up...please?" Hyde pleaded, looking at the blond.
Gackt sighed before placing helping Hyde up. The brunette looked back at Gackt before smiling again.
"What?" The blond asked curiously.
Hyde didn't answer. Instead he pushed Gackt back roughly. Caught by surprise, the blond fell onto the carpet, on his back.
Stunned, he could only look back at the brunette, who walked unsteadily towards him.
Gackt could only blink as Hyde sat, straddling him.
"What...what are you doing?" Gackt asked, surprised.
Hyde leaned down, until his face was inches from Gackt's.
"What are you doing?" Gackt repeated, seeing Hyde observing his face closely.
Hyde brushed his lips lightly against Gackt's.
Then he suddenly sat back up and got off the blond.
Sitting on the carpet beside Gackt, the blond could see Hyde's shoulders shaking. "Hyde?"
"What?" Hyde mumbled after awhile, his voice hoarse.
"Are you okay?"
"No." Hyde shook his head. "I feel stupid...and..."
"And?" Gackt sat up.
"I still feel like throwing up." Hyde mumbled, before sniffling aloud.
Gackt moved closer. "Ne..."
Hyde kept his back to the blond.
"Don't cry."
"I'm not crying, baka!" Hyde sounded annoyed, before sniffling again.
"You sound like you are."
"I'm not!"
Gackt shrugged before wrapping his arms around Hyde's smaller frame. "Alright alright...you're not crying..."
Hyde nodded before breaking into a sob.
Gackt hugged him. "Maybe you're better off with a different job."
Hyde didn't answer.
"Don't feel bad ne..."
Hyde remained quiet.
"And don't cry."
"I'm not crying!"
"Shh...alright, you're not crying." Gackt spoke, as Hyde leaned against him. "You'll feel better tomorrow..."
**********
Hyde hugged his pillow, before glancing at the clock on the bedside table. It was going to be afternoon soon.
And he had just woken up.
He guessed that it didn't matter considering that he didn't have to go to work anymore.
There were other things on his mind.
Hyde saw that he was lying on his own bed, even though he recalled trying to sleep in the living room just the night before.
He didn't know what exactly he was trying to do then, but it had seemed pretty logical at that time. All he had been aware of was feeling really low...and having Gackt there was comforting.
The brunette brought his hands to his head, wishing there was some way he could make the ache go away.
He felt sick...and even worse, he was worried that he might have made things awkward for him and Gackt.
Hyde couldn't believe what he had said to Gackt, about thinking that the blond liked him.
"Ugh..." Hyde groaned. "What have I done?"
And he had sort of kissed Gackt afterwards too.
Well, Hyde really didn't mind kissing the blond. It felt nice actually, even if it had happened because he was drunk.
But he was concerned about what Gackt must be thinking.
It was obvious that Gackt must have sympathised with him, that the blond had humored and comforted him.
Hyde wondered if the blond was angry...or unhappy in anyway.
"At least I didn't tell Gackt right out that I like him..." Hyde mumbled, rolling onto his back again. "That would probably send him packing."
The brunette sighed.
Gackt was a nice person. And he was attractive at that.
"But he doesn't need a deaf admirer like me..." Hyde spoke, thinking about the matter. "I'll have to talk to him when he gets back from work. I don't want things to get uncomfortable between us."
Sitting up, Hyde placed his pillow aside. He guessed that Gackt had probably brought him to his room. Stretching his arms a little, the brunette got off the bed and headed out of the room.
He was getting hungry.
As he walked by to the kitchen, he saw Gackt sitting at the dining table.
"You're awake." The blond spoke as soon as he saw Hyde.
"Eh?" Hyde looked at Gackt in surprise. "Aren't you supposed to be working?"
"I took the day off...in case you still weren't feeling well."
"Oh." Hyde looked at Gackt. "I'm fine now."
"I'm just worried..."
"Umm...thanks...I guess. There's nothing to be worried about. I just drank more than I should and went kind of drunk."
"Kind of drunk..." Gackt looked at him. "So...feeling better now?"
"Yeah..."
"Umm..." Gackt stood up. "About yesterday night..."
"Ah..." Hyde immediately looked at the blond. "I'm sorry...hope I didn't scare you...I really wasn't in a proper state of mind..."
"I didn't mind really...just that..."
"I don't normally get too upset about losing my job. Must have resulted from the earlier drinking session."
"I see." Gackt nodded. "Hyde, I..."
"You can't move out. Please don't..." The brunette spoke, looking at the blond. "I've really liked your company."
"Eh?" Gackt looked surprised. "What?"
"You...you don't want to move out?"
"No...I just wanted to tell you that if there's ever anything, you can talk to me about it."
"Oh."
"That is...if you treat me as a friend."
"Ah, of course!" Hyde smiled. "I do treat you as a friend."
"Okay then." Gackt smiled as well, even though he looked like he had something else he wanted to say.
"You want something to eat? I'm going to cook something."
"Sure."
Hyde nodded before walking to the kitchen. Then, just as he was about to enter it, Gackt suddenly grabbed his arm.
"W-What..." Hyde turned to Gackt. "What is it?"
"I didn't kiss you on the lips because I didn't think you would want me to."
"Eh?"
"But if you don't mind..." Gackt smiled. "I'll do it."[/brown]
